Julie Currin joins 2G Digital as VP of biz dev

Burbank — Full-service post house and distribution facility 2G Digital has hired industry vet Julie Currin as VP of business development. She brings more than 15 years of experience in film and television post production, including senior sales and marketing posts with Deluxe, Prime Focus and Laser Pacific Media. In her new role, she will develop new markets for 2G Digital’s services and promote new lines of business.

Currin’s hiring is part of a broader expansion effort and follows 2G’s recent launch of operations in New York through a strategic partnership with the post production facility DuArt. She will focus, in part, on independent producers and others needing fast and cost-effective means to encode and deliver content to iTunes, Google/YouTube, Amazon, Netflix and other media outlets.

Most recently, Currin served as executive producer at Siren Digital, a full-service post facility, and Relevant VFX, an independent visual effects producer. Prior to that, she was VP of business development at Speedshape, a VFX house focused on commercials and features.

Beginning in 2010, Currin served as VP of sales/motion picture post at Deluxe where she marketed digital intermediate, dailies processing and other post services. At Prime Focus, she was VP of operations and senior VP of sales/post productions for an operation servicing both television and motion picture clients.

2G Digital names Stephen Buchsbaum President/COO

Burbank — Veteran post industry executive Stephen Buchsbaum has joined Burbank’s 2G Digital as president and chief operating officer.

Buchsbaum was most recently a production and post production consultant and managing partner at Traveling Light Partners, an independent film and television production company. Previously, he served for six years as president of The Post Group and CEO of its affiliates, Lighting Media and iO Film. During his tenure, The Post Group became the first independent post house to implement a complete file-based workflow for production and distribution. His background also includes service as president of Video Research Corporation and VP/GM at All Post.

In his new role he will oversee operations, direct sales and marketing, and lead strategic planning for the company, a specialist in digital mastering, content management and digital distribution for television and film. His immediate focus will be on broadening the company’s sales outreach and accelerating its on-going growth plans, which include both an expansion of its Burbank facility and the establishment of an outpost on the East Coast.

One of the reasons for joining 2G Digital, said Buchsbaum, was he was impressed with the technical infrastructure at the studio, which is built around a 10-gigabit backbone, as well as the strong relationships it has forged with studios and independent production companies, including Fox, Warner Bros., Disney, Fremantle Media, Lionsgate and Sony. Under his guidance, the company will focus on quality control, security, connectivity and customer service.

“We want to be the company you go to when you need your files moved quickly and reliably,” he said. “As an independent, we offer many advantages. We’re big enough to handle any workflow and spec requirements, and yet we are small enough to maintain one-on-one relationships with our clients.”
Buchsbaum added that he would seek strategic partnership relationships with other production and post companies offering complementary services. He will also work to deepen 2G Digital’s ties to content distributors such as Apple, Amazon, Google, and Netflix.
