Quick Chat: ProMAX’s Jess Hartmann on purchase of Cache-A

ProMAX Systems, makers of high-performance video storage servers and editing workstations, this week announced its purchase of Cache-A, providers of network-attached video archive libraries and appliances. The deal has been in the works for the past few months.

According to ProMAX CEO Jess Hartmann, “This acquisition builds on our strategy of improving the content creation process by developing a unified and integrated toolset for our clients. More efficient, connected workflows enable our clients to improve project timelines and deliver better content for their customers.”

While ProMAX will continue to sell the Cache-A appliances — including Prime-Cache, Pro-Cache, Power Cache as well as the associated libraries and expansion chassis — independently, they also plan to integrate Cache-A technology into ProMAX Platform workflow servers, which will provide clients with a single, simple interface for managing their media from ingest to

Effective immediately, ProMAX will provide ongoing support to existing Cache-A customers, honoring existing warranties, extended warranties and support contracts moving forward.

On the heels of this news, we threw some questions at Hartmann regarding the move.

Why did you see this as a good fit for both companies?
Both Cache-A and ProMAX have a similar philosophy to create “appliance” oriented solutions that are easy to use and offer high value to our clients, and so there are many synergies between the product lines. Adding Cache-A archive appliances to the ProMAX family furthers our strategy of providing solutions that enable end-to-end connected workflows. ProMAX has the infrastructure in place to upgrade many aspects of the Cache-A solution from product quality, product features and customer support. Our plan is to really take the product line to the next level.

Will the Cache-A team remain intact and at their existing offices?
All Cache-A business operations are being moved to ProMAX’s Santa Ana, California, headquarters where we have over 9,000 square feet of space. We are working with the Cache-A team to determine who will come over to ProMAX, but no final decisions have been made at this point.

Will the Cache-A name remain?
Yes, Cache-A has developed a strong brand in the media and entertainment industry. The Cache-A products will be incorporated as a branded product line within the family of ProMAX media technology solutions.

ProMAX, displaying Cache-A products, will be at IBC in Amsterdam in September.
