Behind the title…
Owning a company means wearing many different hats, including one that says “therapist” on it.
NAME: Walter Werzowa
CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR COMPANY?
We are an audio concept entity based in Hollywood. Our goal: that every 20 seconds, someone in the world is enjoying our music. We are currently at 58 seconds.
WHAT’S YOUR JOB TITLE?
MusikMeister. You might ask yourself what kind of title is this? Please do not cease reading — the next question will shine a light on musikMeister.
WHAT DOES THAT ENTAIL?
It used to be composing, answering phones, and making sure the studio looks clean. It drastically changed over the years. Managing a staff of 16, which includes our production music library Beyond, and writing presentations/concepts. Nowadays, it is not about writing a nice or cool track — a lot of composers can do that incredibly well. The task is to write the right track. “Music Fit” as it is called in academic circles.
WHAT WOULD SURPRISE PEOPLE THE MOST ABOUT WHAT FALLS UNDER THAT TITLE?
As a company owner, I have to put on the “therapy” hat quite often. My career has trained me, and I have to say over the last few years, I figured out that it is not just about listening to music. You have to listen and understand your client’s needs. It sounds so simple, but there is mastery to that.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE JOB?
I love that the job is different with every day and that I can learn every day. We play music!
WHAT’S YOUR LEAST FAVORITE?
That clients come with full iPods triggering uncertainty in variety of demoing.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TIME OF THE DAY?
Honestly, the early, early morning.
IF YOU DIDN’T HAVE THIS JOB, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING INSTEAD?
I studied architecture as well as music, both of which have so much in common! Recently, I branched out into music and healing, helping at the USC Children’s Hospital in LA. The power of music is incredible. Scientists, like Dr. Schlaug at Harvard, are delivering convincing studies.
CAN YOU NAME SOME RECENT PROJECTS YOU HAVE WORKED ON?
In the last four weeks, we created scores and sound design for more than 20 spots for the Ford “Summer Spectacular” campaign. We finished a score and sound design for a movie by Josh Stewart, the new Christie Trailer (mixed in Dolby Atmos), network packages and promos for jobs that I am not yet allowed to mention.
