Swordfish is a motion design studio based in San Francisco. Our team of directors, designers, animators, and technologists work with direct clients and ad agencies to design memorable pictures in motion.
WHAT’S YOUR JOB TITLE?
Executive Creative Director | CEO.
WHAT DOES THAT ENTAIL?
My role is to supervise all creative running through our studio, sort the good ideas from the bad, and help make the good ideas better. I usually am pretty hands-on for the first 10% and last 10% of the project, helping it get going on the front end and fine tuning on the back end.
WHAT WOULD SURPRISE PEOPLE THE MOST ABOUT WHAT FALLS UNDER THAT TITLE?
I’m usually the guy to change the soap in the restroom.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE JOB?
I’m really having a lot of fun and can’t consider what I do every day a job. Starting Swordfish last year is the biggest creative project I’ve ever undertaken, and I’m having a blast.
WHAT’S YOUR LEAST FAVORITE?
Changing the soap in the restroom.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TIME OF THE DAY?
About 20 minutes after downing a 4 Barrel cappuccino.
IF YOU DIDN’T HAVE THIS JOB, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING INSTEAD?
Probably holding a boom mic on a set in LA, or pulling espresso shots at 4 Barrel.

We’ve been on a long-term engagement with Sony helping design motion patterns and other motion intensive UX assets for their consumer electronic products.
