NAME: Brian Unverzagt (@BrianUnverzagt)
COMPANY: Freelancer for Fox CSNChicago, working on sporting events and sports broadcasts.
WHAT’S YOUR JOB TITLE?
Lead EVS operator.
WHAT DOES THAT ENTAIL?
Loading and managing show elements on the EVS XFile and editing show video packages and elements. I also work directly with the producer on sponsored items. I edit rollouts and highlight packages in-game.
WHAT WOULD SURPRISE PEOPLE THE MOST ABOUT WHAT FALLS UNDER THAT TITLE?
How fast we have to turn around the elements in each show.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE JOB?
Interacting with the people, working closely with the producers and the creative freedom I get to create teases and elements in the show.
WHAT’S YOUR LEAST FAVORITE?
The hours, and being away from my kids on long weekends.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TIME OF THE DAY?
I have two: when the show starts and when it ends.
IF YOU DIDN’T HAVE THIS JOB, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING INSTEAD?
I would be doing something else in television or broadcast. It has been my life for so long I don’t know anything else… except maybe running the Tilt-a-Whirl.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS PROFESSION? HOW EARLY ON DID YOU KNOW THIS WOULD BE YOUR PATH?
I wanted to work in the industry after a trip to New York where I worked on a documentary film my uncle was doing. I was 8 years old. I started in radio at college, but that changed in my sophomore year when we went on a field trip to a TV station and I saw how happy the workers were there, so I changed paths.
CAN YOU NAME SOME RECENT PROJECTS YOU HAVE WORKED ON?
The Super Bowl XLVII Pre and Post Game for Fox, the Daytona 500 for Fox and the Chicago Stadium Series for the NHL Network.
NAME THREE PIECES OF TECHNOLOGY YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT.
EVS’s LSM, XFile and IP Director.
WHAT SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS DO YOU FOLLOW?
Facebook and Twitter.
THIS IS A HIGH STRESS JOB WITH DEADLINES AND CLIENT EXPECTATIONS. WHAT DO YOU DO TO DE-STRESS FROM IT ALL?
Spend time with my three boys… being a dad.
