China’s Wanda Studios expands in a big way

China’s The Wanda Group is adding a $8.2 billion dollar “movie metropolis” to the company’s existing entertainment hub. Wanda Studios Qingdoa spans over 400 acres in a northern region between Beijing and Shanghai.

The complex will offer a variety of facilities for film and television production, with a floor area of 58 million square feet, 30 soundstages — including one of the largest soundstages in the world at 107,600 square feet — 24 production workshops, tenant office space, backlots with permanently constructed sets and two large water tanks. The studio supports every facet of production for a rapidly growing base of global creative clients.

In order to keep things running smoothly across all departments, Wanda Studios is calling on Xytech’s MediaPulse to manage all operations from budget to execution through financial reconciliation for the soundstages, production workshops, office spaces and other services offered by the studio. The solution also includes the implementation of a MediaPulse Rental to manage the business and track equipment with integration to a RFID tagging system. The initial installation of MediaPulse is now live and full deployment is anticipated by the completion of the studio in the coming months.

Xytech launches Broadcast Services division

Daniel Lynch

Xytech, makers of the MediaPulse scalable media facility management software system which helps companies schedule resources, manage operations and handle billing and reporting, has launched a Broadcast Services division to bring transmission and asset management solutions to facilities, studios and networks. The division, which is being led by five-year Xytech vet Daniel Lynch, will provide a modern solution delivering flexible, scalable software to operations facing growing content demands.

“Today, the unprecedented volume of digital content continues to drive change,” says Xytech COO Greg Dolan. “This volume will grow exponentially for at least the immediate future. Successful transmission management must go beyond a feature set to integrate with the key components of the ecosystem. We do not approach transmission management as a silo. We match a broad footprint of transmission-specific features to our message-based integration platform, Fuse — a full featured web interface — and our trademark configurability. This unified approach is the only way to succeed in today’s world.”

As VP of Broadcast Services, Lynch will manage the evolution of the company’s MediaPulse platform for transmission. Lynch is well known in the industry for his work with the Associated Press, where he worked for over a decade. Since joining Xytech, Lynch has led the company’s Europe, Middle East and Africa division.

Xytech names Neil Neusten to lead biz dev for EMEA region

Xytech, which makes facility management software for the broadcast and media industries, has brought on industry veteran Neil Neusten as director of EMEA business development. Xytech has recently seen a growing footprint of customers in the region.

Neusten, who brings over 30 years of industry experience to his new role, is responsible for expanding Xytech’s presence in the EMEA market and providing support for the company’s existing roster of top-tier clients.

Before joining the company, Neusten served as VP, global OU business development, for Encompass Digital Media. Prior to that, he spent over a decade at the Associated Press, as both head of technology resources and global events planning manager.

“Our customers in this region are at the forefront of the technical revolution taking place in the media and broadcast industries, and Neil is the perfect person to support their efforts,” says Xytech COO Greg Dolan.

Neusten will cover the region from Xytech’s London office.

Altermedia’s WebGlancer free until January 1

In September, Altermedia updated its studio management software to Studio Suite Xi, with a focus on accessibility — from anywhere and any device. One of the features bundled into Studio Suite Xi is called WebGlancer, which allows an unlimited number of users the ability to securely view Studio Suite data and lets you log time into the Projects module and submit project requests — without having to purchase or occupy additional seat licenses.

Since the launch in September, WebGlancer has been in beta and free to new customers. The company has announced that the beta program is coming to a close on January 1, 2015, and they will begin charging for this feature.

If you’re a current Studio Suite Xi customer, you already have WebGlancer, so there’s nothing you need to do. However,  if you’re considering Studio Suite Xi, or if you’re a current customer with an older version of Studio Suite, now’s a good time to upgrade. Starting January 1, WebGlancer will be out of beta and selling for $1,200.

Over the past year, we’ve tested the system throughout the US, UK, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, and users around the world consistently tell us that MediaPulse Cloud delivers superior performance. We’ve also increased the power of MediaPulse with our 2014 release, giving our customers the competitive edge they need to succeed in today’s market. At Xytech, we are always moving forward.”

The 2014 release includes hundreds of new features and performance improvements focusing on four core areas:

User Interface — SKY 2014, the platform-independent and browser-based interface for MediaPulse, has been upgraded to include a complete graphical scheduling application, real time dashboards for user-defined KPIs and a form editor to modify all screens. Media Order and Transmission Order modules have also received significant enhancements, enabling users to create complex order profiles with one click.

System Interoperability —  MediaPulse 2014 features new adapters for Miranda, Telestream, Avid AirSpeed and Avid Capture, expanding integration capabilities and facilitating automated workflows involving a huge range of third party systems via Xytech’s Digital Order technology. Clients can also add any hardware platform to the MediaPulse ecosystem using our unique MediaPulse Adapter technology and new SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) tool.

Asset Management — Xytech’s new MetaVault MAM (Media Asset Management system) provides a complete content backbone for the creation and storage of files, proxies and metadata. This new functionality makes integrating multiple MAMs, including those from other vendors, into a comprehensive, federated solution a reality.

Xytech bringing MediaPulse 2014 to NAB

Mission Hills, California — At NAB next month, Xytech  will debut a new version of the its facility management platform. MediaPulse is an end-to-end solution encompassing asset management, order management, resource management, and financial management in a configurable, platform-independent, browser-based application.

The 2014 release is the most significant to date, including hundreds of new features and dramatic performance improvements. The new features are centered on three core areas:
user interface, system interoperability, and asset management. Here is a quick glimpse.

User Interface: SKY 2014, the platform-independent and browser-based interface for MediaPulse, now includes a complete graphical scheduling application, realtime dashboards for user-defined KPIs, and a form editor to modify all screens. Allowing customers to create custom web solutions with an easy to configure, out of the box solution, SKY 2014 drives down costs and speeds user acceptance. It supports all popular operating systems, including Apple Mac and iOS.
The Media Order and Transmission Order modules in MediaPulse 2014 also received significant upgrades, enabling users to create complex order profiles with a simple click. In addition, a new web-deployed arrivals board has been added to the Transmission Order module, allowing thousands of users to see the status of all feeds at a glance.

System Interoperability: New adapters for Miranda, Telestream, Avid AirSpeed, and Avid Capture have been added to MediaPulse 2014, expanding integration capabilities and facilitating automated workflows involving a huge range of third party systems via Xytech’s Digital Order technology. Clients can add any hardware platform to the MediaPulse ecosystem using our unique MediaPulse Adapter technology and new SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) tool.

Asset Management: The debut of MetaVault MAM (Media Asset Management system) provides a complete content backbone for the creation and storage of files, proxies, and metadata. This new functionality makes integrating multiple MAMs, including those from other vendors, into a comprehensive, federated solution a reality. As no digital strategy is complete without physical assets, MetaVault also supports easy labeling and RFID capabilities to make the management of even the most complex media libraries as efficient and effective as possible.

MediaPulse 2014 also features a new rules engine that manages notifications, labor contracts, status of orders, and trigger events.

“Our greatest asset is our relationship with our clients and their trust in us,” said Greg Dolan, chief operating officer of Xytech. “They know that we are keenly focused on their need for flexible, scalable solutions to the issues they face. MediaPulse 2014 increases the power of our platform and gives our customers the competitive edge they need in today’s world. Things are moving fast, and Xytech is innovating faster. We are relentlessly moving forward.”
