NAME: Kathrin Lausch (@kathrinlausch).
CAN YOU DESCRIBE WHAT NTROPIC DOES?
We are a visual studio with the focus on intelligent storytelling and brand communication through elegant and conceptual design, production, color, VFX and live action. We collaborate seamlessly across our three offices (SF, LA and NYC) with directors, agencies and brand partners on content and creative technology for commercials, entertainment and digital experiences.
WHAT’S YOUR JOB TITLE?
WHAT DOES THAT ENTAIL?
I am in charge of overseeing and growing the NYC office. I am creating more visibility and opportunities for our relatively young office (under three years). We are expanding our client list through new opportunities, crossover events, new talent additions and also super creative out-of-the-box projects. We are a brand that is also involved in humanitarian causes and participate in helping with our visual storytelling tools.
WHAT WOULD SURPRISE PEOPLE THE MOST ABOUT WHAT FALLS UNDER THAT TITLE?
It depends on how much they know our business, I guess. Not much surprises me anymore. We all wear so many hats and function very much as a team, so we all chip in where needed.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE JOB?
I love the events we put together every six weeks with The LI.ST, which is a membership community, filled with accomplished, connected, kick-ass women committed to pulling each other up and pushing each other out. They are founders, execs, journalists, makers, activists, strategists, creatives and professionals of all stripes. The common denominator: they get it done. We work with other groups as well.
The energy is always amazing and the creative crossover is very stimulating. You walk away with not only new contacts and friends, but I always learn something new as well.
WHAT’S YOUR LEAST FAVORITE?
Oh…..Excel sheets, or better yet updating them in a timely manner.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TIME OF THE DAY?
Lunch. We all sit together at our huge kitchen table or go to the Chelsea Highline (a block away) if it’s nice out and have various conversations, some work related and some not. I work with a great group of people; it breaks up the day plus it’s a great way to stay on top of things.
IF YOU DIDN’T HAVE THIS JOB, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING INSTEAD?
I’d be a depressed lawyer in Europe somewhere. Luckily, I escaped that.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS PROFESSION? HOW EARLY ON DID YOU KNOW THIS WOULD BE YOUR PATH?
It kind of all fell into place when I came to NYC and didn’t want to leave. My law degree was only one side of the brain, but I missed creativity. I started working with a few directors and opened a production company soon after that to represent European directors in the US. Telling my mom that I wasn’t coming back to Germany is another story.
CAN YOU NAME SOME RECENT PROJECTS YOU HAVE WORKED ON?
Reebok, Olay, Bulgari, Fuze.
NAME THREE PIECES OF TECHNOLOGY YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT.
My iPhone, my Mac and a coffee machine
WHAT SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS DO YOU FOLLOW?
FaceBook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Tumblr.
THIS IS A HIGH STRESS JOB WITH DEADLINES AND CLIENT EXPECTATIONS. WHAT DO YOU DO TO DE-STRESS FROM IT ALL?
Biking to work everyday, kickboxing and happy hour :-).
