NAME: Bob Farnsworth
COMPANY: Nashville’s Hummingbird Productions.
CAN YOU DESCRIBE YOUR COMPANY?
A creative team that extends its ideas into the production of film and music, which we call “Fusic,” and which desires to make the world a little better place than we found it.
WHAT’S YOUR JOB TITLE?
WHAT DOES THAT ENTAIL?
Maintaining our vision and setting the example by being willing to do the same things that I expect of our people. That may include writing and producing music or film, assisting with marketing, helping with strategic planning or cleaning toilets (the only job that I don’t allow others to join in with me).
WHAT WOULD SURPRISE PEOPLE THE MOST ABOUT WHAT FALLS UNDER THAT TITLE?
Servant leadership. Feeding the fish in our fish pond.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE JOB?
Working as a team and ensuring that everyone feels important.
WHAT’S YOUR LEAST FAVORITE?
Being the one responsible to hold teammates accountable when they are clearly not doing their best.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TIME OF THE DAY?
Interesting question… perhaps late morning, or maybe lunch time when so much genuine fellowship takes place. Or maybe late afternoon when I often get a second wind and start feeling like something good is being accomplished.
IF YOU DIDN’T HAVE THIS JOB, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING INSTEAD?
Mission work in Brazil or Africa, or teaching kids.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS PROFESSION?
I didn’t, it chose me.
HOW EARLY ON DID YOU KNOW THIS WOULD BE YOUR PATH?
Only when I was in the middle of it… in my mid-twenties.
CAN YOU NAME SOME RECENT PROJECTS YOU HAVE WORKED ON?
An orchestral arrangement for the National Anthem of Uganda; a TEDx Talk in Colorado; we co-wrote the theme song “The Greatest Generation” for two concerts that will be held during events honoring the 70th Anniversary of the Normandy Invasion/D-Day (being performed in France); the film score for Living Hope; we are presently producing the film It’s a Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story for 2016 release; and we are working to make “Film-com 2014” (June 13-19) in Nashville a success.
NAME THREE PIECES OF TECHNOLOGY YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT.
Pro Tools, Logic and voice-activated texting/emails.
WHAT SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS DO YOU FOLLOW?
Nearly all of the main ones, but not very directly. I lean on our team for most social media.
YOU WORK IN A HIGH PRESSURE ENVIRONMENT. HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH CLIENTS AND WHAT DO YOU DO TO DE-STRESS FROM IT ALL?
If a client is having a bad hair day, I think, “It is better to understand than to be understood.” I take one day at a time, and I don’t take it all too seriously.
I also appreciate how blessed I am to have a wonderful wife, and realize that my profession could sink, and if I still had Marybarret (and our precious five children) I am still a very wealthy man.
Love is the answer…every time. Love our family, our friends and even our enemies, who may need it most.
